Module 1 – NYSLA Seller Server Alcohol Training Awareness Program Overview
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

• Correctly define terms relating to the sale or serving of alcohol in the state of New York.
• Describe the purpose, goals, and rules for alcohol awareness training and certification.
• State the intent of New York laws relating to alcohol sales to minors, intoxicated persons, or habitual drunkards, including the licensee’s and server’s responsibility to be aware of any redelivery to a minor by a legal patron.
• State the intent of New York Laws regarding the right to refuse to sell to a minor, an intoxicated person or individuals without the appropriate identification, including the burden to establish that delivery of alcohol was made based on a reasonable reliance upon written evidence of age.
• State the forms of identification which the state regards as legally acceptable written evidence of age, and the manner in which false and fraudulent forms of ID may be detected.
• State the intent of New York laws regarding a seller-server’s responsibility to reasonably supervise the premises.
• State the intent of New York laws regarding unlawfully dealing with a child.
• Understand the civil liabilities, general liabilities, responsibilities and general obligations of violating New York laws regarding the sale or serving of alcohol to minors or intoxicated persons in the state of New York.

Module 2 – Minors and Alcohol Sales
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

• Determine whether a sale of alcohol is legal or illegal with regards to a minor in any given situation.
• Use observations to detect when a minor is attempting to purchase alcohol.
• Correctly identify whether an ID is valid and proper for purposes of establishing age, and
• Determine appropriate intervention techniques with regards to a minor attempting to purchase alcohol in a variety of situations.

Module 3 – Intoxicated People and Alcohol Sales
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

• Describe how seller-servers may be held responsible for the acts of their customers (Dram Shop Act).
• Determine whether a sale of alcohol is legal or illegal with regards to an intoxicated person in a variety of different situations.
• Define blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and list factors that affect BAC in individuals.
• Use observations to detect if a person is intoxicated.
• Apply appropriate intervention techniques for preventing sales to intoxicated persons in a variety of circumstances.

Module 4 – Unlawfully Dealing with a Child
When you complete this module you will be able to:

• Correctly describe the repercussions for providing alcohol to a minor.

Module 5 – Civil Liabilities, General Liabilities, Responsibilities and General Obligations
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

• Describe the liabilities for the seller/server and licensee in regards to the New York Dram Shop rules for damages caused by serving intoxicated customers.

Module 6 – First Hand Accounts - Victim Impact
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

• Describe the impact alcohol has on the general population
• Describe firsthand accounts from victims of DWI
